NEWS

   OLD GIRLS GAME

Trinity Ladies Gaelic football want to get in contact with as many people as
possible that have been involved with the club in the past.

We intend to get a Trinity Old Girls match/event to take place this semester
for the first time,March 27th at 6pm in Ringsend. The mens gaelic
and hurlers have been running this event successfully for the past number of
years so thought it was time we try follow their lead.

Sadly two girls that were involved with Trinity Ladies gaelic in the
past passed away in 2009 so it would be nice to have an opportunity to
commemorate them.

Was just wondering would there be many of you interested in taking part in
the match or even showing your support on the day?

  NEW GOALPOSTS
        OJust Posts

Congratulations to everybody involved in getting Trinity's first ever GAA Goal Posts. The success of this long running campaign now means teams training on the Cricket Pitch will be able to make use of the new posts, and with Cricket Pitch opening for use again they should be seeing plenty of action in the near future. The addition of the posts to College Park attracted much radio and national newspaper coverage and will no doubt raise the profile of the club within Trinity. Again, congratulations to everybody involved in all the work that went on behind the scenes to make this happen.

See the Gallery for more pictures from the official opening.

MEN’S GAELIC FOOTBALL CLUB

The OLDBOYS match took place Saturday November 28th, at 6pm, in Clanna Gael in near freezing conditions. The Footballers are due to play DIT in the semi final of the Leinster Council leagues this Wednesday 2nd Dec, venue TBC. The winners of this game will play Maynooth (2) on Monday 7th December in Clanna Gael.

HURLING CLUB

The hurlers are off to Edinburgh next weekend to play the annual shinty game. There is a good mix of young and old travelling and no doubt the lads with have a great weekend.

HANDBALL CLUB

Last week Trinity Handball club made a successful return to competitive action when the team claimed All Ireland silver medals in Tralee in the 40x20 intervarsities. The team was managed by Laura Keaver and saw fantastic performances by Eamon Foley, Cormac Mc Mahon and Niall Mullally.  Great achievement by all concerned.

In the Mens B grade, last years runners up UCD were expected to make no mistake
this year and they didn’t disappoint beating both UL1 and UL2 en route to the
final against a three man Trinity who sensationally beat DCU in the quarter
finals and NUIG in the semi final to set up an all Dublin showdown with UCD.
Ladies doubles champion Marianna Rushe faced off against Trinity’s Kilkenny ace
Eamonn Foley in the first singles with Foley taking the first 21-16 and
Marianna taking a tight second game 21-19, it all came down to the doubles as
Trinity needed to be more than 43 aces in front to take the title or 42 to
level it, as they had only three players. However despite Niall Mullally and
Cormac McMahon’s 21-14, 21-17 win over Kevin Mulligan and Hillary Rushe UCD
revenged their final defeat on an overall scoreline of 110-82. Who knows what
would have happened had Trinity a forth player.

 CAMOGIE CLUB

The Camogs have a match tonight Monday against DCU in Clanna gael at 8:30.  It is hoped to have another game next week against Froebel.  There is also the possibility of playing the Purcell qualifier v GMIT before the Christmas break.

 LADIES GAELIC FOOTBALL CLUB

The Ladies match against DCU looks like going ahead Monday week Dec 7. The girls will be training this week , venue and times to be confirmed by Ryan /Cliodhna.

Ice bath study Physiology dept

I'm doing a PhD in exercise physiology in the physiology dept. here in TCD and I'm currently researching the effectiveness of ice baths as a
post-exercise recovery intervention in GAA players. I had a good few
lads from the college senior and intermediate team involved in my last
study which finished up before summer. I'm starting a new study now
and I'm launching a recruitment drive. A few lads from my home club
Blackhall Gaels in Co. Meath are taking part but for logistical
reasons it's great to have volunteers that are based in TCD all week.
Would it be possible if I sent you on some info that you could forward
it to your list of members? Much of the exercise research that takes
place here is done on rowers, runners etc. but I'm trying to get more  GAA focussed stuff done
If that's ok with you I'll send on a brief summary of what I'm doing
and after that anyone that wants more details can get in touch with
 me.

David can be contacted  at 086 3590146 or cramptod@tcd.ie

This could be the start of a mutually beneficial relationship with the Physiology department.

Fixtures /Results

Men’s Gaelic Football  are very busy this week and on Wednesday 28th all three teams are in action.  At 2pm the freshers are playing arch rivals St Pats and this game is followed by the Inter team playing DCU in  a rescheduled game.  Both games take place in Santry at 2pm and 3:15 respectively.

The Senior team are playing  the Law School at 7pm in Clanna Gael also.  As usual support is welcome at all these games.

The Ladies Gaelic Football team are playing UCD in their first game of the league at 7:15pm in Belfield.  Turnout at training have been fantastic so far so hopes are high for success this year.

The Camogs have a challenge game against DIT on Thursday at 8:30pm in Clanna Gael Ringsend.  The Camogs also had a challenge game last week against Dundalk IT and there were some excellent performances from Hannah Larmon in particular who scored a hat trick on her debut.  The 3rd division blitz takes place next wed 4 November in Dundalk.

The Hurlers are progressing nicely under the coaching of Stephen Mc Namara and they played a challenge game last night Tuesday against David Kettle’s team from Louth.  Most pleasing is the form of Colm Murphy and Pauric Ryan and the Shannonsiders add much needed strength to the forward dividion.  Martin Phelan is also returning to top form.

Leinster Council bursaries

The deadline for completed applications forms is the end of the week.  I need these filled out asap and returned to me so I can forward to Leinster council.

  • Weekly News – Monday 19th October

Hi everyone,

Welcome back to anyone who was here last year and a very warm welcome to anybody who is a new recruit to Trinity GAA club.  Freshers week was very successful this year thanks to the hard work of everybody who helped out during the week.  A total of 259 new members signed up during the week.

Men’s Gaelic – 110

Hurling – 62

Camogie – 32

Ladies Gaelic – 55

Although provisional panels have to be submitted to Croke park for all  teams we can still recruit new players until January 10 for championship.

Cumann Gaelach

Many thanks to all in our twin club “Cumann Gaelach” for their attendance at some of our events during Freshers week, in particular the Puc Fada/cic fada competition.   There was at least 60 people present perhaps enticed by the free pizza.  We even had many International competitors some of whom are still training.  Camogie have two very dedicated trainers from North America.   The goal is to further strengthen the link between both clubs as this could be a mutually beneficial relationship.  All GAA members are encouraged to join the Cumann Gaelach also.  Contact Peadar de Blúit for details 085 1443832.

Inaugural County Colours night in Coppeface Jacks

Last Wednesday 14 October DIT and Trinity came together for County Colours night in Coppers.  Great thanks is due to the Management of Coppers for allowing all the proceeds from ticket sales to go straight back to our GAA clubs.  Well done to officers for selling so many tickets.  Close to 800 tickets were sold for the event between the two colleges.  It is hoped to make this a regular event.  Trinity GAA members are asked to frequent Coppers on nights out – that should not be too difficult to arrange!

Trinity GAA Training Weekend Away November 09

Last year a very successful trip to Lahinch was organised.  Unfortunately the weather was very rough on that occasion which affected matches organised that had to be cancelled for safety reasons.  Luckily the annual FR Ted Festival was on the same weekend!    The destination will shortly be revealed as well as the definite date.  I am trying to get as good a deal as possible.  It is looking like the weekend of November 6,7,8 so keep that weekend free and start saving money!  Exact date , cost, venue TBC asap!

Spread the word amongst your club members please. Its looking very like the Kingdom of Kerry at this stage.  The weekend is normally one of the highlights of the year so spread the word,

Trinity Handball club

The handball club has been revived after a break of a few years and we are lucky to have somebody of the calibre of Laura keaver in charge . Laura was away competing in the world championships in the U.S recently.  She can be contacted on 086 8732096.  Training is provisionally set for 8pm on Thursday nights in the luce hall.  Why not try a new sport to help improve your fitness and eye co-ordination

Paudie Butler hurling wall workshop

National hurling development officer Paudie Butler will be giving a workshop this Thursday 22nd October at 7pm in clanna Gael.  There is a limited number of spaces available for Trinity hurling coaches/officers.  Please let me know if you are interested and I can reserve a place.

Fixtures /Results

The ladies footballers played DCU last night.  The ladies played 3 different teams as coach ryan wanted to try out as many new recruits as possible.  Natasha Brady and Therese Mc Cafferty played well for the ladies team.  The team are playing ucd 2 next Thursday in the league and turnouts have been good for training so far.  Also there was a big turnout for the night out in coppers.  The girls are definitely the best team when it comes to turning up for social events!  The Ladies have a challenge game against  DIT next Monday night, time and venue to be confirmed asap

The Hurlers had a match against Carlow postponed for the 2nd time.  They had 26 guys down training and former All Ireland medal winner Stephen Mc Namara is happy with the effort and potential of the team.  They are playing Maynooth in the league in clanna gael at 8pm tomorrow night

The mens gaelic footballers are already training very hard under Brian Talty and last night they played DIT in clanna gael in the leinster tourno.  The teams finished level 2 -08 to 2-08.  Its good to see the new guys like Luke Turley, Ger Cafferkey and Tomas Corrigan, Joseph Collins amongst others settling into the team.  The footballers were due to play the Law school this Thursday but that game has been called off until further notice.

Shea Feeney’s intermediate team lost out on a scoreline of 3:14 to 10 pts to Maynooth but with a very depleted squad.  The boys who played well enough were Alan Kavanagh, Hugh Mc Geady, Chris Mc Keown, Eoin Cronin and Michael Mc Manus.

The inters are playing Dit in grangegorman this Thursday 22 at 4pm.  Meet at the front arch at 2:45pm

The Fresher football team are playing Tallaght IT on Wed 21 at 4pm in Ballymun.

The Camogs are playing Dundalk IT in clanna gael tomorrow night wed 21 at 6 :30 pm.  There will be soup and sandwiches in the bar afterwards at 8pm for both teams.  The camogs are getting good numbers at training and some of the new girls are looking like they will be a massive addition this year.

RIP Martin Connolly

The death has occurred of Martin Connolly, brother of Clanna Gael Fontenoy chairman Shay and funeral arrangements have yet to be announced

DIT vs TCD Intermediates  22/10/09
Inters DIT pic
A much improved performance combined with a larger squad for this 2nd league game away to DIT Grangegorman. A good competitive outing with DIT emerging victorious despite the best efforts of Vinny Kirrane, Gavin Dooley, Paddy Boyle and Hugh McGeady.

NUI Maynooth  vs TCD Intermediates 19/10/09

Team photo v Maynooth 19/10/09

The Intermediates got their year off to a disappointing start with defeat at the hands of a strong NUI Maynooth side on Monday night. Despite a better second half performance the lads failed to overturn the 1st half lead built up by their opponents.

Next up for the team is DIT away on Thursday  23/10 at 4 p.m
